Summer Shows, Golden Garbage, Tutorials and Jubilees
Howdy,
An update from a cluttered desk over here at The Window Inn…
The summer shows calendar is starting to fill in - full list here and a few more to be added soon. Many are with The Emergency as we are celebrating a couple anniversary milestones and releasing a new single in May. More on that soon!
Speaking of The Emergency - we had a total blast playing at the Calgary Folk Fest Block Heater party in February. Some great smiling faces in the crowd.

The mighty CKUA broadcast the show live and they’ve recently sent me the audio files so I hope to rock my own mix of the show at Fang sometime soon to share here at the Window Inn.
I’m honoured to have gotten the invite to contribute to Pierre-Yves Martel’s excellent soundtrack for Weird Studies Volume 3. I first encountered the podcast show Weird Studies in 2020. I had just finished reading the esoteric, anonymous masterpiece, Meditations on the Tarot. While looking up more about the book online I discovered the show had already done a few episodes on it. I’ve been a fan ever since. When P-Y asked if I’d like to write something, he specifically mentioned Character Witness from One Real Reveal being a favourite track. I penned Golden Garbage in the same open guitar tuning I used a lot on O.R.R.- from low to high- CGCFAC . I found a few lines scribbled in a notebook that seemed to fit the occasion. I added a tenor guitar and octave mandolin and P-Y took it sideways from there into the eerie soundscape world that he’s so fluent in. Happy to see it’s out in the world as the first single.
Paid subscribers and/or folks who follow me on the Substack app will have noticed I’ve posted a few ramshackle guitar tutorials recently for Maybe We Should Just Go Home, Down at the Khyber and Let Me Go, Jo.
These were requests from talented and creative Window Inn subscribers Emma, Olive and Baylee. Happy to entertain other requests as time permits if you send them my way.
G-r-r-eat time being part of the Big Turnip Jubilee show and TV shoot at the Lighthouse in Halifax back in January. I performed my songs She Made a Wreck Outta Me and Pine Pine Pine with the ace house band, The Ordeals and stylish host (and friend), Mo Kenney. Also on the bill were Mama’s Broke and Koromanti & the North Star. Look for the show once it comes out. I snapped a few photos.

4/5ths of the Ordeals. Alex didn’t match so he couldn’t be in this photo.
At the afterparty I sang a version of Mr. Fool by George Jones. Here’s a video Mo shot of The Ordeals and I rehearsing at it Fang. I love that song and Mo’s cowboy boots make an appearance at the end.
Til next time.
